Wildlife aid to save wild lives
Tuesday, February 6, 2024
These last few months have been extremely busy for the WIRES Disaster Relief team, with extreme weather including bushfires, cyclones, storms and floods impacting wildlife and their carers across Australia.
Following Cyclone Jasper in Far North Queensland, and with the support of our Disaster Relief partner Woolworths, we distributed supplementary food, fresh fruits, infant formulas, protein supplements and care equipment for affected carers across the flooded region. Wildlife carers were receiving hundreds of rescue requests, with critically endangered Spectacled Flying Foxes of particular concern. One heroic carer, Brydie, was actively rescuing wildlife whilst her own home was being flooded. She shared the photo above of one little survivor, a wallaby who is benefiting from the supplementary formula you are helping to provide.
