A legacy of hope

WIRES Bequestors are some of our most important supporters. Through generous Gifts in Wills we’ve been able to make a profound difference for vulnerable wildlife, including growing our fleet of Wildlife Ambulances and establishing facilities so that rescued native animals get the very best chance of survival in the wild.

Fiona, the niece of the late Ronald Wilfred Lloyd, reflects on her uncle's lifelong generosity towards all living beings.

“My uncle had a love for all animals. He was a retired school teacher who never married or had children. After retiring he moved from Sydney to Narara on the central coast and bought himself a home.

He and I would have daily chats at 5pm every day. These chats would always revolve around Poppy, an adopted greyhound who was his companion at the time of his death.

He loved his daily walks around the neighbourhood and so did all the dogs, because he would always have a pocket full of treats. They would all run towards him to give him endless kisses, which he just absolutely loved.

We both had the same opinion that all animals are such beautiful souls and the majority do not receive the respect and love they deserve. I would say to him; "things are changing slowly. There are a lot of people that now speak up for the animals, just like you and I do."

So, in his Will he left the bulk of his estate to a few animal charities. I would like to think you could honour him in some way. He really was such a beautiful man, and I loved him very much".

We are eternally grateful for the generous bequest left to WIRES by the late Ronald Wilfred Lloyd. Ronald’s bequest will support vital training for WIRES carers, ensuring many thousands of rescued native animals get their second chance in the wild.
