Orphaned Jess now ready for release
Friday, January 31, 2025
Do you remember tiny Jess? She was found on the side of the road late in 2023. Her mother had been hit by a car and her skin was torn where she’d scraped across the gravel. She was too young to have even a thin layer of protective fur.
In care with WIRES volunteer Anne, Jess needed four hourly milk feeds and a humidicrib to keep her warm, but she progressed very quickly. Within five days her eyes were starting to open and within a few weeks she’d started to grow fine fur over her little body.
Here she is in January 2024...
And here she is January 2025!
As you can see from the photo above, after more than a year in Anne’s dedicated care, Jess has grown healthy and strong and now has a fine coat of thick fur! She’s formed a close bond with Parker, Bonnie, and Danny – all orphaned Eastern Grey kangaroo joeys in Anne’s care, and they’ll soon be released together. On behalf of Jess and her buddies – an enormous thank you to Anne, and to you too for making sure they received their second chance!
