WalK on the Wild Side to help us assist more native animals in need!
Our amazing WIRES community is often looking for new ways to help us reach the escalating numbers of native animals that urgently need our help. Just in the past year we’ve responded to more than 148,000 distressed native animals, and the numbers just keep rising.
To help step up to this challenge – we've just launched our own – and we’re inviting you to take part!
April is officially Walk on the Wild Side month!
We're calling on you to walk 50km, 100km, or a whopping 150km throughout the month of April so you can help raise vital funds for Aussie wildlife needing urgent rescue and care.
Are you ready to walk on the wild side?
Matt, one of WIRES’ full time Emergency Responders, is gearing up for his chosen 100km challenge. He is eager to venture outdoors and discover his local parks and reserves. He hopes he’ll have the opportunity to see thriving wildlife living safely and freely in their protected environments.
WIRES Emergency Responders are deployed for our most critical rescues and situations, particularly during wildlife disasters. In the past year the team has responded to more than 5,000 native animals in distress.

By joining Walk on the Wild Side, you’ll be helping to support full time Emergency Responders in NSW, Queensland and Tasmania; and making sure our fleet of Wildlife Ambulances are well-stocked with lifesaving medicines, rescue equipment and supplies. You'll also be supporting thousands of expert WIRES volunteers and making sure our Wildlife Rescue Office is open to receive and respond to urgent rescue calls – 24 hours a day – every single day of the year.
Let’s get walking to give distressed native animals the rescue and care they urgently need!
