WIRES Continuing RRANA’s Wildlife Rescue Legacy in Far West NSW

After dutifully serving Broken Hill and the Far West of NSW for over 30 years, RRANA (Rescue and Rehabilitation of Australian Native Animals Inc) has ceased operations.

We have worked with and supported RRANA for many years and WIRES is deeply saddened by the news of RRANA’s closure.

After RRANA indicated that it could not continue operating, WIRES was invited by NPWS to submit an expression of interest to expand our operations to cover the far west of NSW in the area previously serviced by RRANA.

WIRES' application was successful. As a result we will be establishing a new branch, WIRES Far West, in September.

Key Dates:

It has been over 15 years since WIRES formed a new branch. This new branch will be our 29th in NSW.

WIRES wishes to work with the local community every step of the way to ensure we have a good understanding of the community’s needs and challenges so we can deliver positive outcomes for local people and wildlife.

WIRES will be running its first face-to-face wildlife rescue workshop in the Broken Hill region on Saturday the 14th of September. This workshop forms part of the introductory Rescue and Immediate Care Course.

These workshops are open to anyone over the age of 18 who is looking to make a difference for local wildlife and wants to join WIRES.

Additionally, WIRES staff will visit Broken Hill from Tuesday, August 20th to Friday, August 23rd, where we plan to meet with local groups and agencies such as NPWS, local MP’s, RSPCA and Landcare representatives.

During this visit, WIRES is staging an information session on the 22nd of August. All are welcome to attend.

WIRES will officially begin operating in Far West NSW on Tuesday, September 17th.
